What you’ll find in this collection
In the Collection handmade bows you will find hand crafted longbows (bot flat American style and round English style) horsebows and recurves. How to choose the right handmade bow?
You can choose the right handmade bow for you, by first focussing on your body. Your way of shooting. This will make your drawlength, your draw weight and of course if you are a right- or lefthanded archer. (drawing to the dominant eye). This is followed by your preferred archery usage; Target, 3d archery, hunting, flight archery etc. Select a bow with enough drawlength in case you will pull a bit further than first estimated. Select a bow with a draw weight that is comfortable for you wether you opt an easy start or a bow you can grow into. The appearance and feeling comes into the equation.
Craftsmanship, materials & aftercare
We look at the requirements for the bow and select the laminationms, the tapering of the laminatiosn and the thickness accordingly. Every piece of material is checked for the intended use and for faults. We check the bow for the correct tiller fitting the style of bow. We check the braceheight for best performance and make a fitting bowstring. When you recieve the bow it is your turn to care for it. To store the bow in the correct temperature and humidity (the same we humans like) and clean and dry the bow after use. Do take care of the string with wax in regular intervals. Replace the string in time (fraying near the center serving is a good tell). Nothing is as annoying as a broken string during your arhery day out. Anda broken string is likely to damage the bow.
FAQ
A factory-made bow is made by workers. every worker does a pice of the thing (for them it is not a bow). As much as possible is done by automated machines. A handmade bow is made by a craftsman with passion for the craft and the bows he makes. The craftsman sees the bow from start to finish as the bow, and makes it the best he can.
You choose the fitting draw weight based on your physique. This dictates what you can pull, what you would like to pull, what you would like to learn to pull. This is followed by looking at the intended use, 3d archery, target archery, flight, clout, bowhunting. What is the distance you need to shoot the arrow? For a fixed distance like 20 yards a different bow could be used as for 3d archery or flight archery. Have a look at a local club, ask a fellow archer. Listen to your body.
You can use Fastflight on most of our traditional bows. A good 'tell'is if the bow has reinforced nocks, sometimes a nock overlay, sometimes a complete (horn) nock. This protects the wood from being cut through like a saw by the hard Fastflight. Our modern laminates are glued with such precision and high quality glue fastflight does not hurt the lamination.
