Perhaps the world's most famous bow wood the Yew wood. Taxus Baccata, with is characteristic heartwood and Sapwood.
In this 67-inch Flat and crowned limb design bow, we reinforced the tips with Snakewood nock overlays.
The cambium is still showing as we only barely scraped off the bark leaving one single growth ring and a very nice primitive look.
A unique natural overlay is created by leaving some bark on. We had the same fun creating the shallow pistol grip, leaving all colors of the Yew-wood visible. The bow is snakey, has not been steamed or heat treated. It is just like the chunk of wood was offering. The string does go over the center at the grip. The bow has a very nice tiller.
Treated with several layers of Danish oil it has a nice shine and patina to it.
