Different types of recurve bows
Today recurve bows are used in competitive sports as well as in hunting or in recreational shooting. The recurve design is so adaptabel, that bows can be built both for children, beginners, ambitious hobbyists as well as for seasoned archers with the highest expectations.Basically, the "recurve" is just the bent ("recurved") end of the limb. It helps to accelerate the arrow and makes for a smoother release with less handshock. Thus, speed and accuracy of the bow are enhanced.Traditional recurves usually have just a simple arrow shelf and a relatively small "window" (something often completely lacking in horsebows). Modern "olympic" target recurves on the other hand can be fitted with sights and a lot of other "bells and whistles". So recurve bows cover a range from instinctive shooting to modern high tech. Somewhere in there is the right bow for you.
Choosing the right recurve bow
Basically, you can chose between Takedown Recurve Bows (where exchangeable limbs are attached to a riser - the central piece where you grip the bow) and one-part recurves. Horsebows are a special variant of one-part recurves.Takedown bows are the norm in target shooting (as seen in the Olympic Games), as they have all the necessary bushings to attach sights, stabilizers, magnetic arrow rests and so on.
These bows often have metal risers. More traditional-looking takedowns, often with wooden risers, are for example built for beginners, who want to have the option of changing the draw weight by simply swapping the limbs. But there are also deluxe versions for the experts! People who spell traditional with a capital T often go for one-part recurves, sometimes called hunting recurves. although they are absolutely fine for 3D archery as well. They are lighter in mass, more maneuverable, often shorter. Basically, they are responsive, easier to carry as you trek through the forest, and as they rely less on aids and attachments, they are tailored to the needs of the instinctive shooter.
Craftsmanship, materials & service
Fairbow recurves are made using modern materials like Carbon and Fiberglass on bamboo cores. We use Modern 2K glues and modern 2K varnishes for longevity and durability of your bow. These modern materials are used using modern techniques in a controlled environment but still with old-fashioned quality and pride for our products. Every bow is checked, inspected, and will only leave our workshop when we are satisfied and we could use your new bow ourselves. We have many bows in stock, but, if you can afford to be patient, we will make your new bow from scratch, which can take 6-8 months.Because our quality is that high, we warrant our bows even when used with modern string materials like HMPE and Fastflight.Fairbows ' top-levelā recurves are shipped to you with a lifetime warranty.
FAQ
The arrows should be long enough to be safe to use (The arrow must be long enough not to be overdrawn), The arrows should be of a matching spine value to the drawlength and the draw weight and the arrows' weight must match the bow; if the arrow is too light, shooting it causes the same stress and damage to a bow like a "dry loose", i.e. releasing the string without nocking an arrow.
The required recurve size depends on the archer's length, the choosen drawlength, and the choosen archery style. Please contact us for more information.
A recurve bow can best be braced with a stringercord, a bowstringer. If no other options are available the step-in-method can be used. This is for experienced archers only, as the limb can be put under undue stress and be twisted.
