Bow tools
This is where the tools, parts and kits live: everything you need to build, finish, maintain or equip your traditional bow. It brings together four subcategories, bow strings, bow bags, bow kits and bow parts, in one place. It is useful whether you are completing a U-Finish bow, building from a kit, replacing a worn string or simply protecting the bow you already shoot. Below you will find an overview of each subcategory and practical guidance on matching the right string or part to your bow.
What you'll find here
This section is organised into four subcategories. Bow strings holds replacement strings and string materials in Dacron and Fastflight, in the lengths and strand counts that suit different bow types and draw weights. Bow bags covers protective carry and storage bags sized for longbows, flatbows and horsebows. Bow kits brings together complete DIY bow kits that include the parts you need to assemble a bow yourself. Bow parts gathers individual components, such as limb tips, horn nocks, grips, arrow rests and other replaceable items. Start with the subcategory that matches what you are building, repairing or protecting.
Choose the right tools and equipment for your bow
Matching the part to the bow matters. For a string, choose the material first: Dacron for self-bows and most traditional bows, Fastflight only on bows built for it. Then match the string length to the bow length and the strand count to the draw weight. Maintain a string with wax, but replace it once the serving frays or strands break. Bow bags are sized by bow length, so measure before you buy and look for padding and a secure closure. Parts like nocks, grips and arrow rests wear gradually; replace them when you see cracking, thinning or a loose fit. Draw weight, bow length and bow type all decide what is correct.
Materials and craftsmanship in every component
Everything in this section is chosen to work with traditionally built bows. For strings we stock Dacron, which stretches slightly and is gentle on the bow, and Fastflight, which is faster and lower in stretch but only for bows built to take it. Horn nocks are selected for a clean fit and long wear, so the string seats properly and does not cut into softer wood. Bow bags use durable fabric, real padding and dependable closures, not just a thin sleeve. A DIY bow kit is a complete starting point with the parts and materials you need to build a sound bow, rather than a bare handful of components. The same care we put into our bows guides what we offer here.
FAQ
As a rule, the string is a few inches shorter than the bow length, because it sits between the nocks rather than running the full length of the bow. Many bows have a recommended string length or brace height from the maker, so follow that first. If you are unsure, measure your bow tip to tip and check the product page, which lists the bow length each string suits.
A DIY bow kit gives you the parts and materials to assemble a bow yourself, rather than loose components you still have to source. Typically that means the limbs or laminations, the riser or core material, and the basics needed to put it together. Exactly what is included depends on the kit and the bow style, so check the product page for the specific contents.
Dacron stretches a little more, which makes it forgiving and easy on the bow, so it is the safe choice for self-bows and most traditional bows. Fastflight stretches less and shoots a little faster, but it puts more load on the limbs and tips, so use it only on bows built and reinforced for it. If in doubt, choose Dacron.
